Aquatecture by Brük Dunbar
Sculptor Brük Dunbar dives into issues such as the infrastructure of water, gentrification and its effects on architecture meanwhile dipping all her work in blasts of color. Her showing at Basement Gallery Oakland will incorporate site specific installations alongside individual works, inspired by the great city of Oakland, in which she lives and works.
"In my practice as a ceramic artist, the connection to raw earth and the things that come out of soil is felt and heralded. Growth patterns and the movement of growth have always amazed me and show up often in my sculptures. As well, the current climate of farming, consumption, and genetically modified products all tend to be themes i investigate in my work. The investigative process continues by working my way through maps, magnifying countries into cities, cities into neighborhoods and down to the house, it's foundation and eventually it's pipes that extract in similar vein-like formations as do roots from the soil." -Brük Dunbar
