BASEMENT GALLERY OAKLAND
Katherine Martin, Solo Exhibition
November-December, 2012
Curated by Anja Ulfeldt

Much of Martin's work deals with discarded byproducts of everyday life, including furniture and often plastics. Through a rigorous investigation into the history and properties of her material she creates a rich and layered tapestry ranging from wall pieces to three dimensional works and experimental textiles that imply intended domestic use.
"The act of throwing something away is a monumental moment for that object. It aims to destroy the trajectory of that object. It removes the ability for that object to have any intention, or be intended upon. It is a rejection of its entire form." - Katherine Martin
